Rainy Day Fun at Woodland Park Zoo

By Meghan Sawyer - Woodland Park Zoo January 10, 2019

When Seattle sunshine turns into Seattle showers, it might be tempting to stay inside on the couch. But rainy days don’t have to be boring, in fact they’re the perfect time to visit the Woodland Park Zoo!

From playful penguins to happy hippos, zoo animals galore are frolicking in the liquid sunshine. Rhinos Taj and Glenn definitely aren’t afraid to get wet – and neither should you! One of the best things about coming to the zoo in the rain is that your inner adventurer can experience the animals without the crowds, so you can connect with nature like never before.

If you want to duck for cover, there’s plenty of exhibits that offer shelter! From giant grizzly bears and riveting river otters at Northern Trail’s Taiga Viewing Shelter, to sleepy sloths and mischievous meerkats at the Adaptations Building, check out the zoo’s Rainy Day Map to find all the places to explore without getting wet!

When you’re ready to dry off, visit the indoor nature play space at Zoomazium. What could be more fun than exploring a mountain cave, crossing a rope bridge in a tree canopy, discovering what lies beneath a savanna water hole or even climbing a 20-foot tree?! All this and more are waiting for kids (and parents!) who want a break from the raindrops.

The next time the skies turn gray and the clouds start to swell, grab your rain boots and an umbrella because Woodland Park Zoo is the perfect place to make the most of a rainy day!
